Samsung’s new foldables cost more. Deal with it.

July 22. London. The stage is set for Samsung Galaxy Unpacked.

We are about to find out exactly what the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 are worth. Not their specs, though we likely have those. Their price. The real number you will scream at your phone over.

One answer remains elusive.

Until now.

Global RAM shortages are reshaping the entire industry, and Samsung isn’t exempt.

The supply chain is choked. Short on memory. Short on patience. A South Korean outlet, SEDaily, reports that the base 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 8 will hit the shelves at $2,199. That is $100 more than the Fold 7.

There is also a rumor of an Ultra Wide model. Think of it as Samsung’s answer to whatever foldable Apple decides to build. That one starts at roughly $1,900. Also with 256GB.

The Z Flip 8 fares no better.

Leaker Lanzuk, citing Phone Arena, puts the starting price at $1,199. The previous model, the Flip 7, launched for $1,099 back in July. Again. A $100 hike.

Samsung has already tried this once with the Galaxy S26 lineup.

The S25 debuted at $799. The S26 starts at $899.

But they got sneakier with the Plus and Ultra models. Instead of a direct sticker shock, they removed the lower-storage options. Same result. Higher floor. Apple tried it. It works. Samsung is copying the playbook.

They even killed that nice little promo where you got double storage free if you pre-ordered. Gone.

Why?

RAM.

Everyone wants AI. Everyone needs chips. The industry is drowning in a crisis some call “RAMageddon.” It’s affecting laptops, consoles, phones. And before the dust settles? Prices only go up.

It won’t get easier.

Mashable will be in London next week for Unpacked. We will watch. We will report. You will see the numbers.

Will you care?

Probably not.

You will buy them anyway.
